EDN 325 Introduction

Hey Everyone, I have decided to continue using the blog that I started last semester as I found it quite easy to use.

I am orginally from a very small town in Ohio about an hour east of Cleveland. I moved to the Carolina's in 2015 to attend UNCW and be closer to my older sister and her family. I now live in Sneads Ferry with my mom and boyfriend.

I have an older sister, who has 2 boys and 1 girl, who I spend a lot of my time with. I also have a younger sister and a younger brother who live in Ohio with my dad and Stepmom.

I dont have much free time as I work as an office assistant and nanny for a family who owns a masonry company. But in my free time I like to relax and watch netflix, workout (mostly crossfit style workouts) shop and I would love to be able to go explore more of the world. Being from around Cleveland I am a huge Indians and Cavaliers fan, I try to be a Browns fan but that's hard. haha

Math use to be one of my favorite subjects in school until high school when I had a horrible teacher for geometry. I still enjoy math but I a hard time understanding certain things when it comes to geometry.

When I comes to learning mathematics I feel that most of the time you just plug in numbers into a given formula which makes it kind of easy.

When it comes to teaching mathematics I worry about not being able to get all the students to understand the formulas or why you have to do what you do.

Elementary school mathematics should be fun and easy. Not too easy that it wont help them in the long run but easy enough that students dont get discouraged and give up so early.

Being good at mathematics means not giving up when you dont figure out the right answer the first try.

"Good" mathematics teachers show students the way to do problems but also let their students explore different ways to do the problems. They let students try and find different ways to do problems but them make them explain why and how they did it that way.

The Person I would like to have a conversation with is Paulo Coelho he is the author of the book The Alchemist. A book I had to read my 2nd semester of college that changed my life.

Behavior Management

The classroom management style used in my field experience classroom is a school-wide behavior management chart. Each day the students start on the color "green" throughout the day they can either move up or down the chart based on their behavior. If the teacher needs to tell the student to stop what they are doing more than once or twice the student then has to go move their clip down on the chart. When students are listening really well, being super quiet, or doing what they are supposed to without the teacher telling them she will have him move their clip up. Students who receive "pink" get VIP privileges the next day and get the sit at a special table instead of their normal seat. Whichever color the students get is marked in their take-home folder at the end of the day for parents to see. Each color is also worth a certain amount of classroom money that the students can use to do fun activities like watching a movie at the end of the 9 weeks.  STO...

Module Twelve

Coordinate Grids The websites that I explored were:  Gregs Grid Graphs- I thought this site was a good one. It has the student first figure out the coordinates by matching the letters to the coordinates. The it shows the points with letters and the students need to write out the coordinate. One thing I notices though is that it states that the coordinates are written with parentheses but when the site has you write out the coordinates it doesn't allow enough typing to do so. This could confuse students in the long run and not use parentheses.  Stock the Shelves- I think students would think this is a fun game to play. It makes you be completely accurate on clicking your points, if you are even a little bit in the box and not on the center of the 2 lines it counts it wrong. This is something that students could do to practice to make sure they are understanding where coordinates are. This also includes negative coordinates so it would probably be better for students wh...
